Memorial Day ride

Image
Before it got too hot today we took the bikes out into the County.  There is more traffic than there was 10yrs ago, but it's still pretty easy to get out, and away from it all. I hope everyone had a great day. Ride on!

Bike to Work day 2011

May is bike month.  I don't know exactly what that is supposed to mean.  I guess it's an opportunity for retailers, manufacturers and advocacy groups to get people, that otherwise wouldn't, thinking about bikes.  Not a bad thing. One of the aspects of Bike Month is Bike to Work day.  Also a noble calling.  Here in Indy there were several groups that met at various locations around the city.  From there they rode downtown for a festival, of sorts.  I guess if you work downtown, it's convenient.  If you didn't, and you wanted to take part in all the activities, you would have had to take the day off.  I'm not sure how to reconcile that. Anyway it looked like a great event with a great turnout.  Another sign that we truly are becoming more of a bike city. I spoke briefly about my new Rivendell A. Homer Hilsen.  As luck would have it, we finished the build on Friday the 20th.  I didn't even have bar tape on it yet, but I rode it home anyway. Here it is a

Giving in

My regression into a less technical, simpler bicycle is by now well documented.  I've spent the last several months investigating a world that I thought was long ago relegated to the annals of bicycle history.  Gladly, I found that was hardly the case. I give credit where credit is due.  Grant Peterson has kept the fire of simple, enjoyable, comfortable bikes burning brightly....if you knew where to look. I had thought about designing a bike I could sell at my store.  A "country bike" that you could ride nearly anywhere.  I came to realize that what I was trying to imagine had already been done.  I broke down and ordered my own Rivendell A. Homer Hilsen.  Story and pics to follow.  Yesterday was 2 Wheels, 1 City; an event put on by The Indy Cog .  It was a great time, and I look forward to participating for as long as they will have me.  There is a vibrant bike culture brewing in Indianapolis.  It's exciting to see so many people excited about bikes.
